Homeowner lives in a twin home (or townhouse)
which shares a backyard area visible to adjacent
neighbors. He wanted an open patio area with a
water feature where he could barbecue while
visiting with his next door neighbors.
Design Solution:
1.
Added a new saw cut limestone patio and
resurfaced the existing concrete porch
with limestone to tie the two areas
together. Made a long limestone step
down to the new patio, which doubles as
extra seating.
2.
The patio was made more intimate by
adding a curved 18” high limestone
bench, with lighted columns, creating a
sense of privacy in what is a very
public space.
3.
A large concrete tiered fountain was
added as a focal point. It can be seen
from inside the house as well as
outdoors. Running water helps reduce the
sound of traffic on the busy street
behind the backyard.
