Property: P. Terry's Hamburgers 404 S. Lamar Blvd, Austin TX

Objective: This restaurant sat vacant, boarded up and overgrown with weeds for 5 years, until the owners of P. Terry’s Restaurant remodeled the building and landscaped the grounds during the summer of 2005. Small lawn areas, low maintenance, and “architecturally interesting” plants combinations were requested. The owner also wanted palms included in the design.

Design Solution:
1. Oklahoma decorative rock was used in sharp geometric angles as edging around the lawn areas and to build raised boxes to show off the Mediterranean and pindo palms. Sago palms were used liberally throughout the landscape.

2. Pea gravel covering weed barrier was used in all borders to lower maintenance. New Mexico River rock and Indonesian aqua moon pebbles were included to add textural interest.

3. A shady outdoor patio was created on an old slab of concrete under large existing pecans. The area was cordoned off from the drive thru lane- for safety- using hog wire fencing and arbors. Sidewalks and stepping stones entries were added.

4. The result is a simple, clean lined, contemporary landscape.
