Homeowner wanted a shaded area where she could
enjoy the view of the surrounding hills and
woods which border her Texas Hill Country
property. She also wanted color- that deer
coming up out of the canyon below her unfenced
back yard- wouldn’t eat.
Design Solution:
1.
Installed two saw cut limestone patios
one on the upper level in the shade of
existing oaks connected to her house for
a dining area and the second farther
down her slope to take in the view. A
wooden pergola was added to create shade
from the hot afternoon sun.
2.
Waves of low maintenance ornamental
grasses with easy care deer resistant
flowering perennials were planted in
curved islands spotted in the new lawn
area for visual interest and to reduce
the area of water guzzling grass.
3.
Success! The homeowner reports that the
deer haven’t eaten any of her plants.
